Concrete Void Forms

Plasti-Fab® Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam products provide engineers with superior performance solutions when used as a void form material in precast/prestressed concrete forms.

Formwork can often be simplified by using Plasti-Fab void form material, which can be left permanently in place, replacing traditional wooden or other form products.

When Lafarge Canada Inc. sought out alternative void form material for use in precast/prestressed concrete box girders, they required an economical solution that would result in a lightweight finished product.

Plasti-Fab representative, David George provided Lafarge with the expertise to find the right foam for this application. In this case PlastiSpan EPS with a nominal density of 1.35pcf was used as the void form, cut to custom size and shape for installation in the concrete box girders manufactured by Lafarge Canada.

By substituting traditional wooden forms with expanded polystyrene void form, it provided Lafarge Canada with strong, lightweight material, which was easy for their workers to handle.

The construction of the concrete box girders proved to be a smooth and efficient process, as a result of using Plasti-Fab void form material. From the placement of the rebar and void form material to pouring the concrete, it saved Lafarge Canada both time and money as their own technicians and mechanics were able to work with the void form material without contracting other skilled laborers.

"Plasti-Fab's service and product were of excellent standards. Their sales representative provided us with detailed product specifications and timely delivery. Overall our experience with the Plasti-Fab product and team was enjoyable." Said a Lafarge Canada Inc. representative.

Lafarge Canada supplied 26 precast/prestressed box girders for the bridge project at Highway 403 for extensions at the NE and SE ramps of Mohawk Road in Hamilton, Ontario. Due to height restrictions at the project site, concrete box girders were used in place of the more typical but taller concrete "I" girders.

Every Plasti-Fab product and customer benefits from our commitment to quality, service and expertise. By choosing Plasti-Fab void form material, Lafarge Canada was provided with the product solution that met all their technical specifications and installation requirements, plus saved them scheduling time and money.
