Calgary family transforms chilly basement with DuroFoam® retrofit

After researching insulation retrofits online, the Sayers hired local contractors Reg Munroe and Darryl Lindsay to install Plasti-Fab® DuroFoam® insulation over their basement floor. Munroe and Lindsay started by laying down a polyethylene moisture barrier beneath the 1x3 strapping that would be used to support the new subfloor.

Plasti-Fab® SIPs and ICFs combine for innovative community center

The 18,000 sq. ft. building will house a multipurpose function room, a children’s play area and a tourist information center. But what really makes the new Elkford Community Center special is its unique energy-efficient construction using the Insulspan® Structural Insulating Panel (SIP) System, Advantage ICF System®, and cross laminated timber (CLT) construction.

Upscale living with superior soundproofing at a competitive price

That the Villagio multi-family condominiums in Calgary were constructed with bricks salvaged from a former heritage building is only part of its appeal. The mansard roofs and 10ft. high ceilings, reminiscent of beautiful designs found in Old Montreal or European cities further afield, are a nice touch, as is the fact it’s situated in the unique and very walkable neighbourhood of Kensington.

Lakeside cabin adds energy efficiency and comfort with Advantage ICF System®

To guard against the area’s harsh winters, Hoag chose the Advantage ICF System® for the walls of the home. Unlike wood frame construction that suffers from thermal bridging, the Advantage ICF System provides a continuous layer of expanded polystyrene insulation that reduces heat loss by up to 40 percent when combined with other energy-efficient building components.

Insulspan® SIPs help cut energy use in multifamily housing development

Redwood Terrace Supportive Housing in Richmond, Indiana offers a supportive housing environment with 24-hour onsite supervision for the mentally and physically impaired. Funding for the 57,000 sq. ft. building was largely provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HOME program. But the funding came with strict guidelines for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

“Insulspan® engineers are paying attention” to building science advancements

After a year of design work, the Sustainable Energy Efficient Demonstration (SEED) house took shape as legions of professional contractors worked shoulder to shoulder with students. The house, Roger explained, is a state-of-the-art “permanent classroom” with cut-a-ways to teach not only students about energy efficiency, but consumers, contractors, appraisers, and architects – “anyone who wants to see what the future of energy efficiency looks like.”
